Welcome to Open Curtain
My high school psychology teacher asked our class: "If your house was burning down and you could only save one thing, what would you save?"
I forget what my answer was, but I remember his: "I'd grab my box of journals."
That night, I started journaling.
Journaling became the only way I could get to internal clarity. Most of the what I wrote ended up being crossed out and rewritten because once I saw the words, I realized they weren't true enough.
Four years later, I built up the courage to share a journal. If I could show others my thoughts, maybe they too would start to see the world the way I saw it.
So I posted one of those journals where I broke down some of the systems I use to keep track of what friends are up to and how I can be a better friend.
Someone at Atlantic Records named Jordan happened to read it. He reached out because he wanted to build similar systems to help manage the ecosystem of partners around artists like Cardi B.
I was 20 at the time, and had just learned what now feels obvious: writing online is not only a way to arrive at internal clarity and share my world view. Writing is a meaningful way to connect with people who are thinking about similar things.
Six years later, I'm disappointed in myself for not publishing much of anything.
While I've continued to journal every day, and send out the occasional "Personal Board of Advisor" update or "Kobro's Cancer Crew" newsletter, most of my time and energy has gone towards building my company, Intros.ai.
And now that I've sold my company, I hope to once again connect with others through writing.
Open Curtain will be my place for this.
